Reps to IGP: Fish out killers of Plateau monarch, 4 others

THE House of Representatives, yesterday, directed the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, to fish out those behind the gruesome murder of the head of council and paramount ruler of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State and four others on Monday.
House of Representatives during plenary This is just as the Plateau State caucus of the House of Representatives accused President Muhammadu Buhari of complacency in the midst of gruesome murder of Nigerians, especially indigenes of Plateau State.
Alleged attempt to wipe out state The lawmakers alleged that there was a deliberate attempt to erase the people of Plateau State from the surface of the earth, while the government that was supposed to provide security for them had abdicated its responsibilities and advocated a state police to tackle these security challenges.
The House in a resolution, directed the IGP to investigate the matter to bring the perpetrators to book. It also directed all security agencies to deploy their men to the area to forestall a breakdown of law and order. The directive to the IGP was sequel to a motion on matter of national urgent importance sponsored by Solomon Bulus Maren, representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency of Plateau State, titled  The gruesome murder of His Majesty, the Saf Ron Kulere, Paramount Ruler of Bokkos and Chairman, Council of Chiefs, Bokkos LGA. Maren in the motion, noted that the monarch was killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, alongside his son, daughter in-law, orderly (police inspector) and a relative. Killing, one too many He said the killing was one too many in the series of murders that had occurred in the area since the advent of the present administration. He said: “First, it was the Makai Forof, Dah Ali Magaji sometimes in January 2016, the second was the District Head of Manguna, Saf Anjong Adake who was the secretary to the council of Chiefs, Bokkos Local Government Area. “And worst of it, is the one that occurred just yesterday (Monday), the head of the council and the paramount ruler of Bokkos people who was brutally killed by unscrupulous elements.” No security intervention He alleged that in all the cases mentioned above, there had been no security intervention, either to “stop the killings or bring the culprits to book.’’ Maren stated that the wanton killing and unwholesome act of terrorism by mischievous people ought to have been tackled, even with greater intensity than Boko Haram, but expressed dismay over the slow and consistent manner and pattern of operation and elimination of peaceful and law abiding citizens who had been working hard to achieve lasting peace in the state. Addressing journalists, the Plateau State House caucus lamented that apart from the paramount ruler and four others gruesomely murdered, two other persons sustained serious injuries. “We want to call the world as a whole to look at what is happening in this area. It is good we place it on record.  This is not just murder, but an attempt to erase us from the surface of the earth. We have called on the youths at home to keep calm.” Also speaking on the matter, Timothy Golu said:   “It is a wicked and brutal killing of 78 years old paramount ruler. This is another dimension of the act of terrorism we are witnessing in Plateau State. “Right now, there is tension and if nothing is done, it will escalate, we are tired of what is happening, we want to hear a very strong statement from the President.” - Vanguard
