AN S.O.S TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI. By Weynet Sidi
The spate of killings and insecurity in the country has become cause for serious worry and concern to all discerning people of the country. The recent killing of four persons,by two suicide bombers, suspected to be boko haram,in a mosque in Maiduguri and the killing of nineteen persons, including two reverend fathers in Benue, and the plethora of massacre in Plateau,Kaduna,Taraba,Zamfara,Yobe,Benue,Borno and several other state of the country is what has come to characterise the regime of the present Buhari/APC led federal government.
The reluctance, unwillingness, outright refusal and blatant resistance by the Buhari led Federal government to proscribe boko haram and the killer herdsmen, declaring them terrorist groups, with the fact that together these groups have been responsible for scores of killings, including women, children and the elderly in the country, really elicits cause for suspicion and doubt about the sincerity, neutrality and purposelfullness of the Federal government in tackling the menace of these groups.
What is frightening and a grave cause for serious concern is the accusation that boko haram and the killer herdsmen may enjoy the sympathy of the Federal government and may both be enjoying immunity from arrest and prosecution under the Buhari led Federal government,as evident in the lack of diligent reaction, by the Federal government,to the horror unleashed by these groups on hapless citizens of this country. The recent admittance by the president that the Inspector General of Police may have flaunted his directive, directing that he (IGP) relocate to Benue and the lack of political will to deal decisively with insubordination, indiscipline, relegation of duty and incompetence, is a sign of weakness, insincerity and compromise by the present Buhari/APC led Federal government.
The Buhari/APC led Federal government must be decisive in tackling the menace of boko haram and killer herdsmen, incuding bandits holding sway in Zamfara,Birnin gwari and other parts of the country. There must be a clear strategy by the government to tackle, combat and take the fight to the groups and end the cycle of needless killings and insecurity. The strategy of government condemning each killings after the attack must have been carried out,is unacceptable and insults the sensibility of Nigerians. Government must begin to be seen, fighting this menace holistically and sincerely to douse any fear or doubt in the minds of its citizens and bring about an end to the genocide.
Nigeria is in dire need of leadership that unites its people as against leadership that divides them. We must agree to put an end to insecurity, violence and killing,by putting aside our sentiments and biases and making up our minds whether to stand for the future of our children and generations unborn or to stand for our religious, ethnic, economic social and other selfish consideration.
No leader is worth his/her office if the led are helplessly slaughtered while the leader looks away. Mr president sir, your citizens are no longer safe in their own country, there is a bitter ethno-religious divide in your country that is threatening its existence, the country is burning under your watch sir, and borrowing from your favourite phrase, you seem to be saying,"I am not aware ". Mr president, please honour your oath of office and be the president of Nigeria for all Nigerians .IT IS TIME TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY!! IT IS ACHIEVABLE!!!
DREAM IT,THINK IT,BELIEVE IT,DO IT.
