PRESIDENT BUHARI AND A DATE WITH HISTORY - Weynet Sidi
Former president,Goodluck Jonathan, conceded defeat even before INEC concluded the announcement of the 2015 presidential elections results by calling the presumed winner,Muhammadu Buhari,to congratulate him amidst strong opposition and rejection of the results from his party chieftains and supporters. President Jonathan set a precedence in Nigeria and indeed the entire African continent that has since been emulated in other African countries such as Ghana and even the Gambia, before the unfortunate u-turn,by that single step . The transition from Jonathan to Buhari administration was peaceful and seamless and would continue to be a point of reference for African leaders/countries to emulate and replicate.
The tables have turned and Muhammadu Buhari is now the president, with the power of incumbency, seeking re-election come 2019. I wonder if president Muhammadu Buhari will tow the path of his predecessor, president Goodluck Jonathan,by calling to congratulate whoever is presumed to be the winner of the 2019 elections and prevailing on his supporters to accept the results in good faith and save the country from anarchy and bloodshed. Anything short of this would be unacceptable and a major setback for the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari must be ready to take an undertaking denouncing violence, together with his supporters and pledge to respect the wishes of the Nigerian people by accepting the outcome of the 2019 presidential elections results. We cannot afford to go back to the dark days of sit tight rulers and clamp down on opposition. We all have a part to play in ensuring that we sustain our nascent democracy and save Nigeria from impending calamity and disaster. It is achievable!!!
DREAM IT,THINK IT,BELIEVE IT,DO IT
